About Catalyst
Catalyst is a statewide Alabama program offering free genetic testing to eligible adults. The test is simple, confidential, and provided at no cost to you.
O’Neal Steel is partnering with Catalyst to bring this testing directly to employees on-site.
What does the test include?
The genetic test is a clinical test that looks at your risks for chronic and rare diseases as well as what medications work or don't work based on your genes.

Is this really free?
Yes. Catalyst offers free clinical-grade genetic testing to all Alabama residents age 19 and older. No insurance or payment is required.
Do I have to participate?
No. Participation is completely voluntary.
Will O’Neal Steel receive my genetic results?
No. Your employer does not receive your genetic results. Results are shared directly and confidentially with you.
Does my health insurance have access to my results?
No, your genetic results are not shared with your employer or your health insurance provider. Results are delivered directly and confidentially to you.
What does the test involve?
A simple cheek swab is collected on-site. No blood draw is required.
How long does it take?
The on-site process typically takes around 5-10 minutes, including check-in and sample collection.
If you pre-register, the process may be less than 5 minutes.
Do I have to pre-register?
No. Pre-registration is optional but may make the process quicker on the day of the event.
When will I receive my results?
Results are typically available within approximately 8 weeks and are delivered directly to you.
Who is eligible to participate? Can my family participate?
Alabama adults over the age of 19 are able to participate in Catalyst.
The on-site event at O’Neal Steel is for employees. However, eligible family members can enroll separately through the Catalyst website and request a test kit get sent to their home.
